FSU football has been putting in the work to show improvement on the field.

Unlike the past two FSU football head coaches, Mike Norvell has been candid when speaking with the press. I’m not saying the former coaches lied, but they just involved a lot of coach speak and not much substance about how things have gone at practice.

The only thing Norvell has been coy on is updates regarding injured players like Hamsah Nasirildeen and Meiko Dotson earlier in the season.

However, when it comes to how practices have gone, Norvell has given a lot of substance regarding how he feels each practice has gone.

There have been a couple of practices where he has communicated he was displeased with how the practice has gone.

For the most part, he has stated he has been pleased with the direction and the work the players have put in at practice.

The Challenge For Coaches and Players

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, the challenge for the coaches and players is getting what they are doing in practice, to show up in the games. It’s like a golf player hitting shots on the driving range and not being able to hit those shots on the actual golf course.

We’ve seen the players able to do it in short spurts in all three phases. I think the biggest thing is how they respond when they hit a bad shot on the actual golf course.

Does one bad shot turn into a quadruple-bogey, or are they able to scramble to make par or even bogey?

Can they withstand the adversity when it comes? We’ve seen them face adversity better to some degree, but they seemed to fold on defense in their outing against Louisville.

Are they creating enough habits in practice for them to show up during the games? I think we’ll find that out Saturday afternoon.
