FSU football: What’s impact of signature win over No. 5 North Carolina?
By Kelvin Hunt
Confidence
I’ve mentioned it numerous times, confidence in sports is everything, and it’s something the Noles have lacked since getting wrecked by Virginia Tech in the 2018 opener.
We’ve seen them get destroyed by Clemson without any type of fight. The same has gone for Florida and Miami the past couple of seasons.
The team didn’t know how to win and would collapse when any small amount of adversity would come their way. However, we’ve seen them respond to adversity in the last three games.
They overcame a terrible start against Jacksonville State to finish that game strong. We saw them play competitively with an excellent Notre Dame team last week, and competed for all four quarters.
Saturday night, we saw a familiar script when they jumped out to a huge lead, but finally fight off a team in the second half to pull out the victory.
This team is beginning to game confidence and finally play at a level most expected this season. I think the team finally getting over the hump and beating a good team should continue that trajectory for the Noles.
This win should emphasize even more what the coaching staff has been telling them the past 10 months or so. The success Saturday night should make them buy-in to what the coaches are coaching even more.
They have a winnable game against Louisville next week, and that game will tell us a lot about where this team is moving forward.
