Program Showed Heart

There were times in the second half of the game when every FSU football fan likely asked themselves if this was the moment FSU would fold like a wet t-shirt.

The first moment was after the first missed field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald early in the third quarter, with North Carolina scoring a touchdown on their next possession to make it 31-15.

The FSU defense battled all night, had some key stops on fourth down, not to mention the interception returned for a touchdown by Joshua Kaindoh.

The FSU offense didn’t score in the second half but did but themselves into position to score points a few times.

However, one of the most important moments was their drive in the fourth quarter with 13:33 left in the game. FSU’s Jordan Travis had thrown an interception at the end of the third quarter, and the FSU defense held to force a missed field goal for UNC.

The ensuing drive for the FSU offense was 11 plays for 53 yards, but more importantly, took seven minutes off the clock even though it ended with a missed field goal.

That drive was key because it melted so much game time away while they were up 10 points. There was a time when UNC had all of the momentum, but the Noles fought the entire game.
