After FSU Football lost Saturday, Chop Chat’s Sam Tschida takes a look at how the newcomers played against the Fighting Irish.

While the Noles took a loss in South Bend on Saturday, there was more positive energy surrounding the program than there’s been at any point since 2016. Even in a loss, after FSU’s performance a few weeks ago against top-ten Miami, many fans did not expect a somewhat-competitive game.

Aside from an inspiring performance from Jordan Travis at quarterback, a whole host of the offensive production was led by newcomers to Tallahassee.

QB Tate Rodemaker (FR)

Rodemaker, who started last week against Jacksonville State but was quickly pulled, did not see any action against the Irish. This situation isn’t surprising, considering the success Travis had against ND and Rodemaker’s poor play last week. Still, do not be surprised to see the freshman get more reps this season if he can beat out James Blackman for the second spot.

TE Preston Daniel (FR)

Daniel recorded no stats but was again featured primarily in a blocking role, mainly on counter runs.

TE Wyatt Rector (RS Soph)

Rector received all his playing time on special teams and recorded no stats against the Irish.

WR Kentron Portier (FR)

Portier got some snaps towards the end when the game was sealed, and recorded no stats.

WR Darion Williamson (FR)

Williamson saw a bit of playing time towards the end of the game but recorded no stats. We’ll get into the players that were big-time contributors next.
