FSU football: 5 takeaways from the FSU loss against Notre Dame
By Kelvin Hunt
Progress Is Being Made
This is the type of game the Noles needed against a top-ranked team. The only thing better would have been to pull off the upset on the road.
I’m not sure what’s going on with the defense. A lot of people want to blame Adam Fuller, but after watching this game, I’m not so sure it’s all on him.
There were players in a position to make plays against Notre Dame, and they didn’t get it done. To be fair, Notre Dame has one of the best offensive lines in the country.
However, Notre Dame’s quarterback had all day to throw the ball and a clean pocket to step up in and escape when he wanted to run. The defensive line didn’t do anything all night, and the linebackers were terrible.
Fuller did try to bring pressure with blitzes and different things, but these players are not very good right now.
The good news is, I think it might be easier to tell a defensive recruit he’s the missing piece they need to make a difference. It also helps in the transfer portal if a defensive player can see the team’s offense can score points.
It’s baby steps, but there progress being made. I said it after the Miami game this offense will get better before the defense will so be patient Nole fans. I think Mike Norvell is going to get this thing turned around sooner than later.
