HB LaDamian Webb (Soph)

Webb stole the show for the Noles on Saturday with this highlight run-in score during the third quarter.

It’s a simple inside zone run that is blocked well. Webb bursts through the hole and makes the linebacker pay dearly for guessing the wrong gap. His balance at the end of the run earned Webb a spot of SportsCenter’s Top 10.

Webb ran for 55 yards on 10 carries and did a great job in pass protection throughout the game. He continues to look good each week and might be the best pickup of the offseason by this staff.

HB Lawrence Toafili (FR)

Out of the three new members of FSU’s backfield, it seemed going into the season that Toafili would receive the least amount of carries. However, after his performance in back-to-back weeks against UM and JSU, Toafili might be in line to start for the Noles in the new future. He ran the ball twelve times for 99 yards and a touchdown, on this play in the 3rd.

Toafili does a fantastic job of letting his blocks settle, and the bursting off the edge for the touchdown. Even if it’s just against an FCS team, FSU football fans should be excited about this young running back.

HB Jashaun Corbin (RS Soph)

Corbin had a good day on the ground for the ‘Noles, carrying the ball 14 times for 63 yards and a score. Taking on the role of the “workhorse” back, Corbin has come agonizingly close to busting some massive runs for the Noles, but much like Cam Akers in 2017, has yet to break one.

Despite no flashy plays like Webb and Toafili, Corbin continues to run hard and took advantage of good run blocking from the offensive line in the second half. He was also good blocking, doing a great job of acting as the lead blocker for Webb and Toafili several times.

HB Ja’khi Douglas (FR)

Douglas saw more reps this week and recorded one catch for nine yards. Expect to see Douglas more involved in the offense as the year rolls on.

RT Robert Scott (FR)

After receiving a bit of playing time last week, Scott was named the starter for the Noles at right tackle against JSU. He did give up a sack early on, but that sack was more on the QB. Scott was by no means dominant, but he wasn’t bad either. Just like with the rest of the o-line, once Jordan Travis got in the game, and the offense was able to go quick, he began to get a good push on the Gamecocks.

Take this play here in the second quarter. This run is an outside zone play with a lead blocker for LaDamian Webb. Scott has a “wall block,” and he does it perfectly, turning the edge defender away from the hole and opening up a big running lane. This play is not an incredibly hard block, but as we’ve seen in recent years, basic competence is a major plus for anyone on the o-line.

Scott is still not ready to start against teams like Clemson and Notre Dame, but FSU might have a suitable tackle soon.

LT Thomas Shrader (FR)

Shrader did not see any in-game action against the Gamecocks but expect him to be in the rotation next week if more injuries occur on the line.

Bottom Line

Overall, the offense was played well. Even if just against an FCS team (and a good one at that), it was good to see the Noles put some points on the board.
