Defense

This unit is the one I’m most disappointed in, as most expected them to be the strength of the team in 2020. Marvin Wilson missed the first half after getting called for targeting in the Miami game.

However, his absence in the first half should not have mattered against an FCS opponent. Truthfully, it’s not like too much changed after he started playing in the second half, although he did capture his first sack of the season.

The FSU defense has a lot of issues, namely missed tackles and communication coupled with a lack of a pass rush.

Technically, they did hold Jacksonville State to 17 points scored, since the other score was the interception they returned for a touchdown.

It was good to see them turn Jacksonville State away on the final drive after allowing them to go nearly the length of the field in under two minutes.

They did well at stopping the run, but something has to give with their inability to stop teams from passing so well against them.

A lot of that goes back to the defensive line not playing up to standard, and the other part is Adam Fuller calling some weird defenses that give opposing offenses too much cushion from the secondary.

Jacksonville State only scored 17 offensive points, but their ability to move the ball as well as they did is concerning. However, one bright spot was they did limit them to 30 percent on third down conversions, which is an improvement over the first two games.
