The pessimist in me will emerge for this one. FULLER HAS TO CHANGE THIS DEFENSE. I’m not going to call for his job because that isn’t my style, but I need to see massive improvements from him.

The defensive line looked like they finally got their legs underneath them, and they got a couple of sacks, and the young linebackers made some plays rather than waiting for the ball, but all of that is because we played Jacksonville State. I hope they can continue this momentum, and this will serve as a get-right game, but I don’t know what’ll happen against the rest of our competition.

The secondary still looks dreadful, and at this point, it is because of the scheme. As my favorite sports analyst, Bomani Jones, says, “Zone is for cowards.” This soft zone will get picked apart by Ian Book and Sam Howell, and has already been picked apart by the D’Eriq King and Jeff Sims.

The concept of it is smart, make the quarterback hesitate, and allow our pash rush to get home. However, the whole season the pass rush has not made plays. So now, its time to adjust. We have too much talent to allow 92 points in three games.

I will point my finger at the defensive scheme because playing a soft zone in short-yardage situations will result in the conversion rates, as we have seen in these games. We need a tight man coverage scheme in the secondary and allow the highly touted transfers and commits to make the plays that they were brought to FSU to make.

This will give more time to the D-line to make plays because we can hold receivers at the line longer and disrupt the timing of the route, which can allow the defensive line to perform to the way we need them too.

This could also result in more takeaways because our guys can win 1-on-1s and be closer to the action to make plays. Coach Fuller, make it happen!
