Special Teams Effect

Special team against Georgia Tech was the one area we could see a night and day difference improvement compared to previous years.

The only mishap was a 46-yard field goal missed field goal by Parker Grothaus. The punting was much improved, with freshman Alex Mastromanno averaging over 48 yards per punt.

Travis Jay looked electric on the punt return and kickoff returns, not to mention how the guys in the trenches were able to get enough push to block two field goals and an extra point.

I think they’ll need another great effort in this phase of the game to increase their chance of pulling off the upset.

However, Miami has a new weapon at kicker who made all four of his field goals against Louisville, including one from 57 yards with room to spare. Miami has a rugby styled punter averaging nearly 46 yards per punt.

Miami had a costly fumble at punt return in their opening game against UAB, so that’s something to keep an eye on.

Field position could be huge in this game, and it’ll be even more important for an FSU football offense that’s still trying to find itself.
