FSU football: How the rest of 2020 season will impact recruiting
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football is in a spot where they need to show progress in order for recruiting to go where it needs to go. Here’s how the rest of 2020 will impact recruiting.
FSU football recruiting is ranked No. 25 overall and No. 4 in the ACC with 15 commits in its 2020 recruiting class.
That’s not where FSU football needs to be, but it’s a good spot considering what the new coaching staff has had to deal with regarding the pandemic.
They’ve addressed some key spots, but still have a few areas that need to be addressed to meet needs on the roster.
They haven’t been able to meet with recruits face-to-face since early March, and the NCAA ruled to extend the recruiting dead period until January 1, 2021.
That means the coaching staff can’t officially host any recruits on campus until that date, which means they’ll have to continue to try and build relationships via phone, zoom calls, and social media.
They can have recruits to visit campus on their own, but they can’t meet with the coaches, which isn’t the same as normal conditions.
I’m sure the coaching staff was hoping they would be able to meet with recruits in-person and host them on official visits during games or during the week.
However, the NCAA extending the dead period means the rest of the 2020 season will be even more important now.
