Coaches’ Assessment

I thought it was interesting how both coaches spoke about how the Noles were able to put together drives of 10 plays but with very few yards.

The culprit, according to them, was penalties and missed assignments in the blocking game. We knew going into the game the offense wasn’t going to be able to consistently overcome situations when the distance was second and third and long.

The Noles were penalized seven times for 50 yards, but it was when those penalized happened that impacted the most.

  • False start: Went from 2nd and 11 on GT 22 to 2nd and 16 on Georgia Tech 27
  • False start: Went from 1st and 10 on FSU 47 to 1st and 15 on FSU 42
  • Holding: Went from 2nd and 10 on GT 36 to 2nd and 20 on GT 46
  • Illegal Shift: Went from 2nd and 9 on GT 29 to 2nd and 14 on GT 34
  • False Start: Went from 4th and 3 on GT 33 to 4th and 8 on GT 38

Man, it does make a difference when you look at it from this point of view, not to mention 71 percent of the penalties came from the offense.
