FSU Football: Why the bye week is the gift and the curse
By Cole Maines
On defense, you won’t know what Miami is until they play Louisville. They beat UAB as expected but didn’t look impressive, but you did see how good their running game can be with quarterback D’Eriq King.
This issue can be counteracted with the FOX linemen moving to spy, and a better presence on the other edge. Once you fix the QB contain problem that can negate other issues and help get the defense off of the field.
Miami’s offensive line isn’t great, so the key to everything will be FSU’s defensive line. If they can win battles upfront, the FSU secondary can likely keep Miami’s receivers in check, for the most part. One thing they can do at times is switch to man coverage, and attack the Miami offensive line by blitzing as they did here against Georgia Tech Saturday night. King’s a good runner, but doesn’t look to be the best passer.
These are all things that can enable change over this two-week window, and we will be able to see the capability of this staff is not only how they respond, but how they get the players to respond. Responding doesn’t mean linger, and let a loss become two losses, but it means to know what you did wrong and come back better.
This bye week is the opportunity to respond and practice what you preach FSU Football; make it happen!
