FSU football will face a familiar name Saturday when former QB commit Jeff Sims takes the first snap for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

If you’re an FSU football fan who follows recruiting, the name Jeff Sims will ring a bell almost instantly.

He’s a four-star QB that was committed to FSU for nearly a year before partly ways shortly after Mike Norvell was hired in December.

There’s a lot of speculation about what happened, but the fact Sims de-committed and FSU signed two new quarterbacks within 10 days tells you what you need to know if you can read between the lines.

Rumors began to circulate Sims could be the starting quarterback for Georgia Tech against the Noles, and that looks to be the case according to this tweet Friday night:

Fan Reaction

Sims was considered the No. 223 player overall and No. 10 dual-threat QB in the 2020 recruiting class. It’s the second consecutive year the FSU defense will face a true freshman quarterback. Boise State started a freshman quarterback in the 2019 opener, and he threw for over 400 yards in their come from behind win.

That has caused some FSU fans to be wary of Sims starting, but it’s not an apple to apple comparison. I welcome him starting, as he didn’t enroll at Georgia Tech until the summer, their offensive line isn’t very good, and he’s not that great of a passer at this time.

On the flipside, FSU’s defense will be coordinated for the first time in a couple of years, so it’s not like Sims will be facing the same FSU defense from last year.

They are going to force him to beat them with his arm, and frankly, I don’t think he’s good enough yet, nor do I think Georgia Tech has the weapons at wide receiver to get it done.

Frankly, if FSU can’t beat a Georgia Tech team that less talented, with a freshman at quarterback? Just go ahead and cancel the whole season at that point because the jokes would be unbearable.
