No Running Game

We miss you, Cam Akers! FSU didn’t have a running back to average over three yards per carry, and they only ran the ball 35 times in the game.

The crazy part is Jordan Travis accounted for six of those, and James Blackman scrambled a few times to make a portion as well.

Surprisingly, JUCO product La’Damian Webb led all players with 13 rushes for 39 yards. He did run hard when he got his opportunities, but there wasn’t much room to make anything happen.

I’m not sure what to pin the issue on. Did Mike Norvell go away from the room game too much early in the game?

The offensive line didn’t get a ton of push, but they didn’t allow Georgia Tech to hit the ball carrier as soon as he got the ball too much either.

Overall, I thought the offensive line looked better than last year, but it seemed Mike Norvell wanted to use the screen game as an extension of the running game.

FSU has to be able to run the ball with its running backs, or we’re going to continue to see more of the same issues.
