FSU Getting Off To A Slow Start Or Disappear In Second-Half

How many times is it going to happen? The offense is non-existent in the first quarter, and the defense is like a sieve for opposing offenses.

That was the narrative in the late years of Jimbo Fisher. The Noles were able to flip that script last season, starting fast, but disappearing in the second half of games.

It was rare to see an FSU football team be able to put it all together for 60 minutes, and that’s the challenge Mike Norvell has for his players.

The Noles need the mindset of striking first and setting the tone for the rest of the game. There can’t be any getting up two touchdowns and looking to coast and relax in the second half.

This program needs to get back to destroying teams early and often, especially those teams where the talent difference is clear.

It’s going to be a process, especially offensively, with the Noles missing so much of spring camp while trying to install a new offense. However, the tone can be set on special teams and defense, and that’s something I’m looking to see on Saturday afternoon.

I’d love nothing more than to see the defense get a three-and-out on Georgia Tech’s first possession, giving the ‘Noles offense good field position to get started.
