FSU football: Q&A with Georgia Tech experts at Yellow Jacked Up
By Kelvin Hunt
Chopchat: Advanced metrics suggest the Georgia Tech defense will improve a lot in year two under Geoff Collins. How do you think the defense will try to match up against FSU’s offense?
Yellow Jacked Up: I think the defense needs to be improved in 2020, and I expect it to be. Collins is one of the best defensive minds in the nation. In terms of matching up, I think the Jackets will try to keep FSU receivers in front of them for the majority of the time and avoid track meets down the sidelines. The Jackets defensive line struggled last year in getting pressure into the backfield, and that must change this season. If it doesn’t, it could be a long year defensively for the Jackets. But also I’ll be interested to see how the front seven does against the run as the Jackets were torched consistently on the ground last year.
Chopchat: Prediction for the game? Does Georgia Tech have a chance to win outright, or cover the spread?
Yellow Jacked Up: I do think if Georgia Tech comes out playing well, and sees quality play at the quarterback position, a win is certainly possible, but on paper Florida State is the much more talented team and a lot of times in these situations, talent wins. However, we’ve seen FSU struggle despite all their talent, so it’s hard to even bank on that entering this weekend. For now, I don’t have a score prediction, but I’m going to lean Florida State wins, but the Jackets cover the spread. I think this one could be pretty low scoring as well.
