FSU football: Notre Dame sends a shot at ACC on social media
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football will take on Notre Dame in October as the Fighting Irish will join the conference for the 2020 season. Will they be in the conference in 2021?
FSU football will start the Mike Norvell era with a difficult slate of games for 2020. One of those will involve traveling to South Bend to take on Notre Dame in early October.
The Noles last traveled there in 2018, getting demolished in the first year of the Willie Taggart era.
FSU football wasn’t supposed to play the Irish again in 2020, but the revamping of the 2020 schedule due to COVID-19 brought it to fruition.
Notre Dame was forced to join the ACC Conference with the Big 10 and Pac 12 conferences canceling their schedules. Right now, it’s only for 2020, and the Notre Dame social media account made sure to mention it earlier Thursday:
Thoughts
I can’t be mad at Notre Dame as they did sort of flex on the ACC. They gave up some of their NBC contract money that will be distributed amongst all of the ACC programs.
However, Notre Dame gets to have a season when they wouldn’t have otherwise, and they will be eligible to win the ACC and compete for a national championship while seemingly going back to independent status for 2021.
Hence, the social media account was like they won’t be putting the “ACC” on their field next season. A lot of fans felt like this season was the perfect opportunity to force the Fighting Irish into joining a conference. Most notably, the ACC, since they are already a member in all their other sports except football.
Most analysts have Notre Dame finishing second in the conference to Clemson. Those two teams will meet in early November in what could be a marquee showdown unless the Noles can pull the upset a month earlier.
