FSU football: Position group confidence rankings for 2020 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Quarterbacks
The FSU football quarterback room is James Blackman and no experience behind him.
- James Blackman
- Tate Rodemaker
- Chubba Purdy(injured)
- Jordan Travis
It’ll be up to James Blackman to take the next step after ending the 2019 season on a sour note. Blackman struggled with his confidence with the previous coaching staff, who never fully invested in him. I think we’ll see a change in that under the current coaching staff.
I also think they’ll be able to play to his strengths better than the previous staff. Blackman has proven he can play, but it’s all about being consistent and harnessing his emotions when things don’t go his way.
However, I believe the latter was due to pressing with the old staff because the didn’t believe in him and he was playing afraid to make a mistake.
Should Blackman get hurt, it’ll probably be ugly with a true freshman under center. Rodemaker would be the guy right now with Purdy injured.
It seems Jordan Travis isn’t going to be a factor unless it’s in package plays to take advantage of his legs.
The offensive line will need to do a better job of protecting these guys, and they’ll need to do a better job of not holding the ball for so long.
