FSU Football: Top 5 unsung players who are standing out in fall camp
By Cole Maines
Kentron Poitier
Kentron Poitier, out of Miami Palmetto High School, has probably been the biggest standout freshmen wide receiver on the team. He has been included in countless highlight clips from practice and has made plays in each scrimmage. Of all the underclassmen wideouts, his name seems to come up the most.
During the Warren Thompson and DJ Mathews saga, most of the position group had to quarantine, and players like Poitier and Bryan Robinson opportunities to make a name for themselves. They capitalized, and Poitier ascended the depth chart.
Poitier is 6’3″ with legitimate bounce and a good frame that has made several plays since day one of camp. The first was on highly-touted transfer Jarrian Jones, and then he got a lot of love in the day five camp highlights.
Despite being a three-star prospect out of high school and enrolling in mid-summer, things that should have set him back from the rest of the room, Poitier is considered an “impact freshman,” and Norvell has said that his camp has been “phenomenal.”
I don’t think he gets to starts, but he could play valuable minutes this season in the third rotation of wideouts given all of the unknowns and value of depth, especially when working in a fast passed offense.
