FSU football: Player parents advocating for 2020 football season
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football players voiced their opinions Sunday night in the “Let Us Play” movement. Now, FSU parents have shown their support for a season.
We’re in unprecedented times with FSU football. The overwhelming majority of people that are involved in college football want a season to be played.
The players, the coaches, support staff, and most of the major Power Five conferences want to play games in less than a month.
They have all voiced their opinions on social media in the past couple of days. The latest group to show their support are the parents of some FSU football players.
Granted, all parents are not active on social media, but it’s noteworthy a tweet by FSU tight end Wyatt Rector’s father has generated some traction on Twitter since Monday:
As I’m writing, there are over 500 likes and nearly 100 retweets from someone that has less than 500 followers and less than 3,000 tweets in the past six years.
I’ve said it time and time again, everyone is going to be at-risk with COVID-19 until there’s a vaccine. Will they be more at risk by playing football? Not if the players adhere to all of the protocols in place to help prevent the virus from spreading.
The flipside of that coin is, will the players be as careful knowing they won’t be playing games this fall? Either way, they are going to be at risk.
There were 7-on-7 tournaments taking place in Florida this past weekend. Players have already been working out with their teams over the summer for weeks. If it was really about player safety, wouldn’t they have shut those down already instead of conferences issuing schedules and dates for a season?
I believe most programs are taking the safety protocols seriously, and it looks like many college football parents do as well.
