FSU football: What FSU fans should expect from Fabien Lovett
By Sam Tschida
Depth Chart
Lovett being eligible for the 2020 season is a massive get for the ‘Noles. The interior defensive line already had three potential All-ACC performers, and Lovett adds another great talent to the lineup.
In FSU’s 4-2-5 defense, FSU will be playing three down linemen and one standup ‘Fox’, although sometimes the strongside DE will have their hand in the dirt. Lovett projects to replace both Wilson and Cooper or Durden on different drives, most likely in the weakside one-technique or three-tech.
I already broke down the interior defensive line depth here, and while the ‘Noles do have a host of players behind the top three already, Lovett’s arrival gives a lot of those guys more time to learn and grow and DTs.
Players like Tru Thompson and Malcolm Ray both need more time in the weight room and learning from the older guys. Although I think both will make a significant impact for the ‘Noles, not throwing either into significant reps to early, which is sort of what happened with Thompson last season and is very important for their development.
Lovett will most likely eat into a lot of their reps, as well as guys like Cedric Wood and Jamarcus Chatman, both of whom have flashed potential but haven’t received as many reps. Expect all to see the field, but the addition of Lovett bolsters an already-strong unit.
