FSU football has a huge need at offensive line and has worked hard to address that position. There down a player after Friday’s Jake Slaughter news.

FSU football lost a player at a position of need Friday when three-star offensive line commit Jake Slaughter announced he was flipping his commitment to the rival Florida Gators.

It’s not a move that’s entirely surprising as those rumors have been around since Florida offered him a few weeks after he committed to FSU football in April.

He’s seen his ranking dip slightly since committing as he’s now ranked about 50 spots lower nationally.

He announced the news via his Twitter account Friday afternoon:

Thoughts On The News

No question, it sucks to lose a player to one of your biggest rivals. It also sucks he’s a player that was a part of addressing a serious position of need on the team since he could play a couple of positions on the offensive line.

The good news is he’s not a natural offensive tackle and they already have an offensive lineman committed who can play center in Bryson Estes. Estes has rated higher of the two players also.

It’s also early enough in the recruiting cycle the staff can focus their attention on remaining targets to help fill the void. This staff is organized and always seem to have contingency plans in the event things don’t go as planned.

The loss of Slaughter drops the Noles back to 13 commits and a No. 26 national recruiting ranking. They had just moved up to No. 21 with the addition of DE Byron Turner earlier this week. I wouldn’t draw too much into this other than Slaughter was a fan of Florida and coveted the offer, hence the rumors of him flipping when that offer came.

Which targets will the FSU coaching staff focus their attention on now is the question?
