The ACC has decided to postpone its Virtual Kickoff event slated to take place next week. What does that mean for FSU football?

One of the first signs there could be no FSU football games this fall fell Monday morning. The ACC has decided to postpone its Virtual Kickoff event that was slated to take place on July 21-23 in Greensboro, NC.

The league has postponed a virtual event, just let that sink in for a moment.

They announced via their Twitter account with no set time for the event to take place in the future:

Thoughts

This is a weird decision after announcing they would not make any plans regarding the upcoming fall season until late July a few days ago.

However, I’m sure Florida setting record numbers for COVID-19 cases every day has not helped ease their concern about playing games this fall.

The state of North Carolina is experiencing increases as well, setting their all-time case increase high of 2,462 on Saturday. The ACC has arguably the biggest geographical footprint stretching from Florida to New York, so that’s a lot of different factors to consider.

While they haven’t announced a decision on fall sports, postponing a virtual event can’t be a good sign moving forward. It’s not like the teams would have to schedule or pay for travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, like under normal circumstances.

I can’t think of any reason to cancel the event other than they feel they will not be playing football this fall. I hope I’m wrong here, but then again, why didn’t they announce the cancellation last week with their announcement on waiting to decide to play conference-only games or not?

I’m assuming we’ll hear something definitive soon enough, but needless to say, this isn’t good for the prospects of having FSU football to watch.
