FSU football: Which FSU national champion team was the best?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has had some of the best teams in college football history that didn’t win a national title. Which of the three title teams was the best?
If you’ve been reading this site for a while, you know how I feel about the way the ACC treats FSU football.
The Noles carried the conference for almost three decades and never received the support it deserved, at least nothing close the way they love to shower Clemson with love now that they’re on top.
It’s rare to see a post on any of the ACC related social media accounts with anything positive for the Noles.
That’s why when I saw the post below I thought I’d highlight it since it is a tough question to answer:
All three teams were national title winners, with the 1999 team being the only team to be ranked No. 1 wire-to-wire. The 1993 and 2013 teams featured Heisman Trophy winners, and all three featured multiple NFL draft picks.
The 2013 and 1993 teams seemed to be more dominant against their respective schedules, but the 1993 team did lose a game against Notre Dame while the 2013 team went undefeated.
The 2013 squad was the most prolific offense we’ve seen while most of the starters would sit in the second half. The defense held seven teams to a touchdown or less with one shutout. However, the 1993 team did post four shutouts while holding three more teams to a touchdown or less.
In terms of the greatest season, I’d have to put my money on the 2013 team. That offense never scored less than 34 points all season, and that was in the national championship game against a defense that knew their signals for half the game.
All three of these teams were great obviously, but if they all played each other in a round-robin, I’m going with that 2013 squad. Which do you feel was the greatest?
