FSU football looks to improve in all three phases of the game in the Mike Norvell era. Here’s why the defense should be much-improved in 2020.

The FSU football defense was supposed to be the strength of the team going into the 2019 schedule.

They had a lot of ingredients needed to be successful, but the defensive coordinator being-forced to run a defense he wasn’t familiar with caused a ton of issues.

There were other factors like being undisciplined, injuries, and lack of adjustments that likely cost the Noles at least two wins in 2019.

They should have won the Boise State and Virginia games, but the defense could not hold teams in the latter part of those games.

FSU enters the 2020 season with a lot of the same ingredients we thought they had in 2019. I’d argue the ingredients are better now than a year ago.

The question is, do they have all the ingredients needed to make a big improvement over the previous year. FSU football finished No. 61 in the SP+ advanced metrics at the end of 2019.

That’s nowhere near where they should have been, but here are three reasons why I think that will be much-improved in 2020.
