Depth and Versatility

As I mentioned, recruiting in the trenches had been a huge concern while Willie Taggart was the head coach.

Not only did they struggle to land offensive linemen, but it was ajlso a struggle to get defensive linemen too.

That’s why defensive end and offensive tackles are a huge need in recruiting right now. Manny Rogers would have at least provided some practice depth as a true freshman in 2020.

I’m not sure he would have seen the field, but he would have been valuable as a body, with the chance to develop during a possible redshirt season. That meant he could have saved a year of eligibility while working to become more of an impact player in 2021 after Marvin Wilson and Cory Durden depart for the NFL.

The other side of the coin is some people think Rogers could have been converted into an offensive lineman. Now, you’ve read how I talked about the need for help on that side of the ball right? So the Noles are losing a player that could have helped on either side had he been able to join the class this year.

This is probably why Mike Norvell and staff went so hard after transfer Fabien Lovett once he hit the transfer portal. Getting him to sign is huge now, considering he could be eligible in 2020 if he receives a waiver from the NCAA.
