FSU football recruiting continues to stay hot on the trails as they add another Mississippi State transfer to its 2020 recruiting class.

Mississippi State defensive back Jarrian Jones announced he plans to transfer to FSU football Monday morning via his Twitter account.

He’s the second Mississippi State player (Fabien Lovett) to announce their plans of transferring to the Noles.

Jones is a former four-star defensive back that was originally committed to Oklahoma before signing with Mississippi State in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

He should have three years of eligibility remaining and a redshirt season after playing as a true freshman last season.

Thoughts On The Commitment

I like the move and it’s a big-time get for the Noles as it looked like Jones and Lovett were trending towards Ole Miss as of late. It also helps bolster the 2020 recruiting class that was the lowest-ranked FSU class on paper since forever.

He was the No. 18 safety in the nation out of high school and could be eligible in 2020 if he files a waiver and it gets approved by the NCAA. There’s a good shot that could happen with what happened with Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach tweeting something that didn’t go over well with a lot of people.

The Noles only signed two high school defensive backs in the 2020 class and will lose safeties Hamsah Nasirildeen, Carlos Becker, and possibly Cyrus Fagan after this season.

Jones played in 11 games last season, so that experience should be valuable coming to FSU. Also, FSU linebackers coach Chris Marve was at Mississippi State last season and should have a good grasp on what Jones brings to the table in terms of strengths and weaknesses.

That information has likely been discussed and shared with defensive coordinator Adam Fuller who will be helping with safeties.
