FSU football coaches have played a vital role in several players achieving success and going to the NFL. Some recent draftees spoke on the value of their relationship.

FSU football hasn’t had a problem bringing in talented players over the last five years. Heck, even over the two past years, which would be considered two of the worst recruiting classes on paper, the Noles have brought in more talent than the majority of the teams in college football.

However, that talent hasn’t resulted in too many NFL Draft picks due to a lack of development of that talent.

The Noles have had 15 players drafted since 2016, with eight of those players selected in the first three rounds.

That narrative could be changing soon as Mike Norvell has hired a group of coaches known for acquiring and developing talent.

A couple of players who were coached by FSU coaches at previous stops commented on the impact they had on their careers:

Willie Gay Jr. was a composite four-star and No. 70 ranked player overall out of high school who was coached by Chris Marve while at Mississippi State. He was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Cameron Clark was a composite two-star and No. 2,490 ranked player overall out of high school who was coached by Alex Atkins while at Charlotte. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Thoughts

Those are the types of things FSU football needs to get back to its glory days. They need to recruit at a top-level like in the past while adding the development part that was lacking in terms of coaching and strength and conditioning.

I wrote about how the recent NFL Draft could be foreshadowing for success under Mike Norvell. We already know Odell Haggins and Ron Dugans can coach and have developed players that have gone on to the NFL.
