FSU football added a big piece to its 2021 recruiting class when three-star WR Joshua Burrell committed Friday evening. We discuss the impact of the commitment.

FSU football coaches are looking for playmakers on both sides of the ball and landed one of their favorite targets with Joshua Burrell.

He’s the first wide receiver commitment for the Noles in the 2021 recruiting cycle. A high three-star who’s considered the No. 1 wide receiver in South Carolina and No. 3 player overall in the state.

There’s a lot to like about taking Burrell as a commit. He’s physically advanced at 6’2″ and nearly 210 pounds with good hands and the physicality needed to block in the running game.

Physically, he’s ready to play as a true freshman, but the underrated part about his game is he’s extremely smart.

Burrell has a 4.25 GPA which helps in a myriad of ways. He should be able to learn the offense quickly, not to mention there shouldn’t be any worry about how he’ll perform in the classroom. There’s a reason he was offered by the likes of Duke, Northwestern, and Wake Forest.

Perception wise, FSU needed to land a commitment for 2021 as they lacked momentum on the recruiting trails. Burrell’s addition boosted them about 10 spots in the national rankings, and the overall response was positive as he seems to be a well respected young man among his peers.

FSU football can likely take around 22-25 commits in this class depending on attrition. Burrell was the eighth commitment, which leaves several spots to fill in the coming months.

The next step for the staff will be securing commitments from players in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

FSU has been trending with some players of late, it’ll be interesting to see if any of them decide to commit to the Noles after seeing Burrell come onboard.
