FSU football head coach Mike Norvell has a big task in getting the Noles back to prominence while dealing with unprecedented times.

FSU football Seminole Boosters continued their “Football Fix” series this week, which featured former players and current coaches Odell Haggins and Ron Dugans.

It was a nice look down memory lane as both coaches spoke about their time at FSU as players and now as coaches.

It’s not often you can get two former standout players back on staff at the same time, but both seem poised to help Mike Norvell get things back to prominence.

That’s the biggest thing I took from the video as both seem pleased with how Mike Norvell is going about things.

The entire video can be seen below:

Thoughts

The last four minutes or so of the video is where the coaches spoke on working with Mike Norvell. One of the prevailing themes was the coaches agreeing that Mike Norvell allows them to have ownership of their particular unit.

Coach Haggins said, “It makes you feel good as a coach when you’re not micro-managed and you can go out and coach your guys and discipline them how they are supposed to be.” I’m not sure if that’s a shot at a prior head coach but thought that was an interesting nugget.

Coach Dugans spoke about being able to coach his wide receiver unit without having to worry about Coach Norvell coming in to meddle too much even though he played wide receiver in college.

The words trust and family were prevalent from both coaches, and it sounds like there’s a lot of cohesiveness among the staff even though they haven’t had a chance to do much coaching together.

Another nugget I got from Coach Dugans was him saying Coach Norvell and FSU offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham has done a good job of teaching them the offense so they can teach it to their specific unit.

Of course, all of the teachings are being done virtually, but it sounds like at least the coaches have a good understanding of what they want to do on both sides of the ball.

That will be important once players return to campus and football-related activities resume. All in all, it’s cool to be able to have access to the coaches and hear their thoughts on things, unlike past coaching staffs.
