FSU football has been operating 100 percent virtually for nearly a month now. Mike Norvell gave an update on what his team’s been working on of late.

FSU football head coach Mike Norvell has been working with Seminole Boosters the past couple of weeks to provide updates on the program while learning a little more about him as a person.

I liken it to a weekly scrum after spring practice so to speak, but virtually from his home.  Nonetheless, any new content we can hear from the coach about how the players are doing and what they are focusing on is good stuff.

This week Mike Norvell said they were focusing on the letter “I” in “CLIMB. The letter “I” stands for intensity.

Now, he went on to talk about and give praise to FSU’s leadership in President John Thrasher, Athletic Director David Coburn, and the many academic support staff who have been instrumental in making sure things are running as smoothly as possible under the circumstances. The entire interview can be seen below, but I wanted to express the importance  of them focusing on intensity.

It’s something I wrote about when we got the word there would be no spring activities, and players would be on their own in terms of working out, learning the playbook, and keeping up with their academics.

Think about it, it would be incredibly easy to say you’ll do something tomorrow when you’re sitting at home, and the only person that can hold you accountable is yourself.

The coaches are doing all they can in terms of checking in and making sure guys are doing what they’re supposed to do, but they won’t know until they get them back on campus and see for themselves.

Honestly, by then, it’ll be too late if the player hasn’t been holding themselves accountable. That’s why it was great to hear they were focusing on their intensity. It’s easy to be motivated the first week or so after being home but now’s right about the time where that initial motivation begins to lack and it’s easy to put off a work out here and there.

Those small decisions are what’s ultimately going to determine how successful these guys are when they do get back on the field.

It’s good to see the coaches focusing on that aspect as I’m sure they need reminders too, to make the best use of their time evaluating recruits, watching practice film, and keeping up with the players on the units they coach.
