FSU football has a big need for defensive tackles with Marvin Wilson and Cory Durden being gone after the 2020 season. Fabien Lovett commits to the Noles.

The FSU football coaching staff is flexing its muscles with two commitments in one day, or as Mike Norvell likes to call them daily doubles.

Mississippi State defensive tackle Fabien Lovett announced Monday afternoon he was committing to the Noles.

He was a three-star defensive tackle in the 2018 recruiting cycle with offers from the likes of Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Memphis, Purdue, Tennessee, and UCF.

Three-star offensive center Jake Slaughter announced he had committed to FSU a couple of hours before the Lovett news broke.

This is a huge get for FSU at a position they need the depth and experience. The program has failed to bring in big-time talent he last couple of recruiting cycles. However, Lovett is a guy that played in 13 games at Mississippi State in 2019 after redshirting his first year there.

He’ll have three years of eligibility left once he arrives in Tallahassee. The connection to Mike Norvell and Chris Marve was crucial here as Norvell offered Lovett while he was the head coach at Memphis in 2018. Marve knew Lovett as he came from Mississippi State as their linebackers coach before assuming the same role at FSU a couple of months ago.

Lovett checks in at 6’4″ 315 pounds and could have a chance to be eligible immediately due to the nature of his reasoning for entering the transfer portal.

New Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach tweeted a meme that was controversial and several players have since entered the transfer portal.

That’s a lot of beef in the middle to team up with Marvin Wilson, Corey Durden, and Robert Cooper if he’s eligible immediately.
