FSU football: Noles were doing work in recruiting before cancellations
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football was establishing recruiting momentum before spring activities were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FSU football recruiting was one of the biggest question marks for Mike Norvell and his staff, as people pointed out they didn’t have big recruiting ties in Florida.
Aside from Ron Dugans and Odell Haggins, the other coaches have recruited the state, but it wasn’t like they were primarily stationed in the state when they were at other respective schools.
The Noles went into last week with four 2021 commitments while still trying to play catchup with having to finish a 2020 transitional class.
Some fans may see only four commitments and have negative thoughts, especially after there were no commitments after the scheduled junior day last week.
However, I can assure you the coaching staff has done major work in getting tons of quality players on campus during the junior day AND during the weeks in general. There may not have been any commitments, but FSU coaches have positioned themselves well with several recruits.
A few of them are already rated as blue-chip players with others waiting to be evaluated by the recruiting services. I feel like the Noles would have had a massive recruiting weekend at its spring game on April 18th had things not been canceled.
Here is a look at a few of the recruits who have visited in the last couple of weeks:

That’s just a few of the players who have been on campus in the past week or so, with a few of them being big-time players. Nyland Green, Barrett Carter, Philip Riley, and Ahmari Harvey all have offers from big-time colleges.
The good news is, FSU seemed to make up some ground with local Tallahassee product Harvey, with Riley naming FSU his leader.
Andrew Jones named the Noles his leader, and the Noles have made multiple top-five lists with other recruits.
Patience is going to be the key here, especially with things on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A lot of recruits are waiting to see what type of progress the Noles make on the field in 2020.
Until then, all the coaches can do is continue to grind, sell their vision and get players on campus as much as they can so the current players can validate the changes that are taking place.
