FSU basketball: 3 reasons Leonard Hamilton is ACC Coach of the Year
By Kelvin Hunt
Accomplished Something Never Been Done Before
I mentioned before, the rise of FSU basketball has come at the perfect time. If you would have bet FSU basketball fans they’d win the ACC regular-season outright in the next five to six years after 2014, all of them would have taken that bet.
They would have lost too. That’s the beauty of what transpired this season, and a testament to the job done by Leonard Hamilton and staff.
Not to mention the temperature of the program was in the dump after their opening season loss against Pittsburgh. I think most fans thought we’d be lucky to make the NCAA Tournament at that point, much less win the ACC regular season.
The Noles didn’t receive one first-place vote in the preseason predictions, and they don’t have five-star players all over their roster.
To overcome those odds in the ACC, whether it was a down year for the conference or not, says a lot about the job Leonard Hamilton did.
Let’s not forget he decided to sit arguably his best player against Syracuse against Devin Vassell. It was a game the Noles struggled to win and nobody would have faulted him for putting Vassell in the game. However, he stuck to his principles and made his point while hanging on to win the game.
There is no other coach in the ACC more deserving than Leonard Hamilton of this award. Let’s not drop the ball this year when it comes to an FSU coach deserving of the award.
