FSU football: 5 blue-chip players from 2018 who need to shine in 2020
By Kelvin Hunt
Warren Thompson
Warren Thompson is the highest-ranked player from 2018 still on the team that’s had arguably the least impact. He signed with FSU as the No. 157 player nationally, No. 28 wide receiver and No. 27 player in Florida.
Thompson had a crazy 2019 season after redshirting in 2018. He saw action in just six games and had six receptions for 91 yards before missing the final six games of the season.
At one point, it looked as though he may not return to FSU for his junior year due to what I’ll call a misunderstanding with the previous coach.
It should be noted it looked as though he was going to be a player through two games in 2019. He had two catches in the season opener against Boise State but disappeared for the most part after that.
Keith Gavin exhausting eligibility helps, but Thompson will be competing with Ontario Wilson and others for playing time. Wilson emerged as the eventual starter before going down with an injury halfway through the season.
Thompson has great ability with great size and often looked like a man among boys coming out of high school.
I’m sure opposing defenses will be focusing more on containing Tamorrion Terry on the opposite side of the field, which should give a player like Thompson a chance to shine in 2020.
