FSU baseball took care of business in their series sweep of the Cincinnati Bearcats. Our takeaways from the weekend.

No. 14 FSU baseball moved to (6-1, 0-0 ACC) with their series sweep of the Cincinnati Bearcats over the weekend.

The Noles won game one 11-4, game two 10-5 and the series finale 10-1.

Many of the issues we pointed out in the preseason are still plaguing the team, and will likely come back to haunt them against better competition.

However, being able to overcome those problems to get the win is what matters at the end of the day. FSU baseball has won six straight since dropping its opening game against Niagara.

Takeaways From The Weekend.

  • FSU defense continues to be a liability
  • FSU offense continues to strand too many runners on base
  • Elijah Cabell had a tremendous series
  • FSU pitching was solid

FSU baseball averaged over an error per game last season and had 10 errors in the three-game series against Cincinnati. That’s something that can’t happen in conference play, or it’s going to be a long season.

The ‘Noles offense stranded 25 runners over the series, and only had five hits in Sunday’s game. There were multiple times they had the bases loaded and were not able to score any runs. They are striking out entirely too much with 33 strikeouts in the three game series.

Elijah Cabell seems to be figuring things out at the plate. He went 3-8 with three home runs and 11 RBI’s on the weekend, including a grand slam Sunday.

FSU pitching only surrendered seven earned runs over the weekend with 31 strikeouts against just 11 walks.

Overall, it was a good series sweep in games the Noles are supposed to win. They will travel to play Jacksonville Tuesday with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. ET.
