Corner #2

The departure of Stanford Samuels III opens up the other starting corner position, and while there are no guarantees, sophomore Akeem Dent seems to be primed to start at the boundary position.

Dent had an up-and-down freshman campaign, playing safety instead of his high school position of cornerback. Dent was able to start at cornerback against Arizona State in the Sun Bowl and seemed more comfortable at the position. Dent is very good when matched up in man-to-man coverage, and can hold his own against the run.

Dent had 34 tackles and 7 passes defended in 13 games last season. He still needs to get better in zone coverage, but his instincts and man coverage will make him a dangerous corner in 2020.

Behind Dent should be a number of talented young players. Isaiah Bolden, recorded one interception last season in nine games, and should be the most likely candidate to receive playing time. Bolden displayed great coverage skills in limited playing time and could also see time at safety.

Demorie Tate, the top-rated recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, might also receive playing time and should push Bolden in practice when we arrives in the summer.
