FSU football went through a month-long coaching search but looks to have found the right guy for the job in Mike Norvell.

FSU football has been under new leadership for almost two months and things are already trending in the right direction.

Mike Norvell has infused the FSU fan base with the passion and enthusiasm he spoke with in his introductory press conference.

He has supported his talk with work too. Norvell wasted no time putting his coaching staff together, a diverse group by age, race and experience coupled with familiarity of staff that should pay dividends.

He did a nice job with the early signing period with 17 of the 18 commits signing and eight of them enrolling early.

The staff has done a solid job of meeting roster needs and attacking future recruiting classes with recruits communicating they are experiencing a lot of positive changes in the program.

These are just a few of the things Norvell has accomplished in his short time in Tallahassee. That’s why it’s not surprising to see CBS Sports grade his hire an “A” among all the new hires over the past few months.

Here’s what they said:

"FSU remains in disarray. That’s not to say Norvell can’t get things back quickly. In this search cycle, Norvell was the best name left on the board for FSU despite what you may have read about Bob Stoops being a candidate. (He wasn’t, by the way.) At age 38, Norvell has the energy and experience to at least try to make the Clemson game competitive again. That’s really what this is about, baby steps in the ACC before trying to regain national traction."

Thoughts

I’d venture to say Mike Norvell has already cleaned up a lot of the disarray that was hampering FSU football. He’s incredibly organized as evidence of how he’s attacked recruiting and put his coaching staff together. The fan base is in wait and see mode but most believe in him at this point.

He’s hired a great team of support staff that will help behind the scenes. Most of them have worked with him before so that transition should be rather seamless.

They all seem to understand their roles and what his expectations are having worked with him before.

Here’s something to ponder about organization of recruiting. FSU football sent out 227 scholarship offers for the 2019 recruiting cycle (Willie Taggart’s first full recruiting cycle at FSU).

Mike Norvell’s been on staff less than two months and has already sent out 204 scholarship offers for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

If the Noles can make progress on the field and in the win column in 2020? This could turn out to be a home run hire for FSU football.
