FSU football: Thoughts on Malachi Wideman’s recruitment
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
Most signs seem to point to Wideman going elsewhere, but we’ll see how the in-home visit with Mike Norvell and company goes.
If Norvell can convince him to stick with FSU it’ll be a huge recruiting win as Wideman is the second highest-ranked player in the class.
It’ll make Mike Norvell look good and FSU will likely stay top 20 in the recruiting rankings. Whether Wideman eventually becomes an impact player in either sport will remain to be seen but it’s not a guarantee even though he’d highly ranked.
I caught some heat for this on social media a few weeks back, but if Wideman chooses to go elsewhere is it that big of a loss?
He’s a player that didn’t enroll early and will be attempting to play both football and basketball in college. How much attention can he attribute to both sports?
It’s not like wide receiver is one of the easier positions to get accustomed to playing in college. Just look at how many highly-rated wide receivers never pan out or take forever to contribute.
FSU football has had a ton of them over the last decade.
Heck, Keith Gavin and DJ Matthews were ranked higher than Malachi Wideman coming out of high school. I think the probability of Wideman NOT being an impact player is higher than him becoming an impact player on either the field or the hardwood.
I’d like to be proven wrong should he choose to enroll at FSU, but good luck to him should he decide to go elsewhere.
