Position of Need

The offensive tackle position has been about as important as who’s playing quarterback for the Noles the past few seasons.

It felt like quarterbacks were in survival mode once the ball was hiked as pressure came from both edges seemingly racing to see which defensive end could get there first.

This will put it in perspective. FSU quarterbacks have been sacked 116 times the past three seasons and hurried another 104 times.

The problem has been how former staffs have been addressing the position specifically, often placing offensive guards at the tackle position.

FSU signed one offensive tackle in 2017, two in 2018 and three in 2019. One of those players isn’t on the roster anymore, another hasn’t been able to gain any weight and another likely is too raw to ever be a contributor.

See the problem?

Scott makes the third offensive tackle in the class and is the highest-rated of them all. He’s the one who could likely see the field the quickest if he hits the strength and conditioning program hard, though it would be nice if he could redshirt and use that time to develop.
