Perception

Listen, some team is going to sign Zachary Evans and it might as well be the Noles who have struggled to get elite players the last two recruiting cycles.

Is there risk involved? Absolutely. Is it possible Evans could come in and be an impact player as a true freshman? Absolutely.

Will teams say FSU only signed him because Georgia refused to sign him? Probably, but that will not matter if he’s churning out yards and scoring touchdowns at FSU.

The fact of the matter is FSU has to begin getting elite players if they want to compete with Clemson. FSU signing a player the caliber of Evans would allow the Noles to jump considerably in the 2020 rankings.

Adding him alone would move FSU from No. 21 to No. 16 and that alone would give Mike Norvell momentum on the recruiting front.

It’s pretty simple how to handle a player like Evans. As a coach, you establish clear boundaries and expectations while treating him just like everyone else to hold him accountable.

If he ultimately doesn’t abide by the rules, then cut bait and then it’s an example to the other players that everyone has to adhere to the standard and expectations being set.
