FSU football: Breaking down ‘Noles schedule for 2020 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
FSU football finished the season with the No. 58 SP+ ranking. That’s higher than West Virginia, Samford, NC State, Louisville, Boston College, Syracuse and one spot behind Wake Forest.
Basically, besides Clemson and Florida, the Noles play a lot of teams who were mediocre or terrible last season. How many of them can make the jump to being good?
The Noles return most of their defense which should be improved with better coaching. Adam Fuller has proved he can improve defenses in his first year at two different places.
The offense improved about 30 spots over the previous year. Its effectiveness essentially comes down to QB play and the offensive line.
If the Noles can somehow improve offensively and catch a break here and there things could shake out in their favor more times than not.
They are still more talented than most of the teams on the roster overall except for Clemson, Florida and maybe Miami.
FSU has been in the business of beating itself in the past few years. A combination of poor play, awful football IQ and turnovers have doomed the Noles to the tune of 18-20 since 2017 when they were ranked No. 3 in the nation.
It’s on new head coach Mike Norvell to correct those things while infusing elite talent on this roster in the next year or so to compete with the Clemson’s and Florida’s of the world.
We’ll likely see what he’s made of with this 2020 schedule after the first four games. If the Noles start out 3-1 or 4-0 then we’re on to something. However, anything less than that and it’s going to take longer than we thought to reach eight or nine wins again.
