September 5th – vs. West Virginia (in Atlanta), SP+ Final Ranking No. 94

For the first time since Bobby Bowden’s last game in the the Gator Bowl on January 1st, 2010, these two teams will meet. The Mountaineers finished (5-7, 3-6 Big 12) with wins over a terrible NC State team and No. 24 ranked Kansas State. It’ll be coach Neal Brown’s second season as he looks to right the ship from a season that looked much like Willie Taggart’s first season at FSU in 2018.

September 12th – vs. Samford (FCS Team)

It was just two seasons ago the Samford Bulldogs gave the Noles all they could handle in front of the Nole faithful. That game was foreshadowing of things to come during the 2018 season. Samford finished (5-7, 4-4 Southern Conference) but did have two wins over ranked FCS opponents Wofford and the Citadel. This game could be a huge confidence booster going into the Boise State game whether they best West Virginia in the opener or not.

September 19th – at Boise State, SP+ Final Ranking No. 37

The Noles owe the Boise State Broncos a tail whipping after allowing a true freshman to come into Doak Campbell Stadium and throw for over 400 yards last season. It’ll be FSU’s first trip to the blue turf where Boise State (12-2, 8-0 Mountain West) was undefeated in 2019. A win here would likely mean the Noles would start the season off undefeated before heading to their first true road game of the season at NC State after it’s bye week.

September 26th – OPEN

I’m not a fan of having the bye week so early as this could come back to haunt the Noles latter int he season. They will have a ton of physical games later and injuries could become a significant factor. It’s always great to have the bye week a bit later for some of those nicks and bruises time to heal up.
