Advanced Metrics

I’ve been using SP+ advanced metrics for years. While they are not fool proof, they are the best things we can use to compare teams from different years.

Here’s what they tell us.

2013 FSU Football

  • SP+ overall ranking: No. 1 (98.7 percentile)
  • SP+ offense: No. 3
  • SP+ defense: No. 2
  • Special Teams: No. 5
  • Strength of Schedule: 62

2018 Clemson Football

  • SP+ overall ranking: No. 3  (98.2 percentile)
  • SP+ offense: No. 5
  • SP+ defense: No. 3
  • Special Teams: No. 95
  • Strength of Schedule: 63

I mean it’s pretty clear FSU football was better in ALL three phases of the game and even edged in strength of schedule even though they played one less game.
