FSU baseball is under new leadership for the first time in most of our lifetimes but the name is familiar. The expectations are still the same though.

FSU baseball is in a familiar spot even though they are under new leadership in 2020. Mike Martin Jr. inherits a talented team that reached the College World Series  with another unexpected run last season.

The Noles entered the preseason ranked No. 14 according to Perfect Game USA a couple of weeks ago.

Another publication, Baseball America has the Noles ranked No. 12 according to their rankings released Tuesday morning.

FSU baseball is one of eight ACC teams in their top 25 with Louisville at No. 2 and Miami at No. 5.

The Noles went 1-2 against both teams in 2019 and were swept by Florida again who’s ranked No. 4 by the same publication.

FSU baseball has one of the toughest schedules in the nation but will be looking to continue its record of 40 win seasons in Mike Martin Jr’s first season at the helm.

The Noles will return a bevy of experienced arms on the mound led by starting pitchers CJ Van Eyk, Conor Grady and Shane Drohan. Offensively, they lost a lot of firepower to the MLB Draft which is a common problem for the Noles.

It’ll be interesting to see how differently Mike Martin Jr. manages the game compared to his father who amassed over 2,000 wins over his coaching career that spanned over 40 years at Florida State.

I hope he’ll be more aggressive on the base paths, but most importantly the Noles need to improve defensively as they have given teams way too many extra outs the past few years.

They had 84 errors last season as a team compared to just 48 for opposing teams when facing the Noles.
