Former FSU star running back Dalvin Cook had a huge part in the Minnesota Vikings upset win over New Orleans.

Dalvin Cook scored two touchdowns and accounted for a big part of the Minnesota Viking offense last week against the New Orleans Saints.

The most impressive thing about the performance was the Saints are one of the better defensive teams in the NFL.

However, they’re great against the run only allowing 91.3 ypg in the regular season.

Cook ran for 94 yards rushing and had another 36 yards receiving as the Vikings pulled off a huge road upset to advance to play the No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers Saturday afternoon at 4:35 p.m. ET

The Vikings are touchdown underdogs again but this time they’ll be facing a 49ers defense that was the No. 2 defense overall in the NFL.

They aren’t as good against the run as the Saints, allowing 112.6 ypg but they are the No. 1 passing defense in the league only allowing 169 ypg.

That means in order for the Vikings to have success, Dalvin Cook is going to have to get loose in order to open up the passing game much like he did against the Saints.

He’s had success against some of the better rushing defenses this season. The Saints and Raiders were two top 10 rushing defenses he performed well against.

The Cowboys and Falcons are in the top half of the league in rush defenses and he did well against them too.

Can he run it well enough against the 49ers to give Kirk Cousins a shot to get going in the passing game is the question? I’m sure San Francisco feels if they can shut the Vikings running game down it’ll be game over.

Let’s not forget Dalvin Cook is a viable threat in the passing game out of the backfield too. As he goes the Vikings will go and a strong performance by him could spring another road upset for Vikings.
