FSU basketball: 3 keys to Noles avoiding upset against Wake Forest
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU basketball is riding a six game winning streak and will go on the road as a big favorite against Wake Forest. We discuss how to avoid the upset.
No. 10 FSU basketball (13-2, 3-1 ACC) is riding high after its big time upset over previously ranked No. 7 Louisville Saturday afternoon.
The Noles have won six consecutive games since their abysmal performance against Indiana last month.
They are about to begin a stretch of games that could really boost their profile beginning with Wake Forest (8-5, 1-2 ACC).
However, this is exactly the type of game the Noles tend to lose after a good performance. They’re on the road against a team everyone is expecting them to beat with a team that most would not believe would be playing as well as they have.
The Demon Deacons do have a win over Pittsburgh who managed to beat the Noles in the first game of the season. However, they are coming off back-to-back losses against NC State and Penn State.
This is a game FSU basketball needs to win to get this next stretch games off on the right foot.
3 Keys to Avoiding the Upset
- Force Wake Forest To Take Tough Shots
- Have Defense Force Turnovers
- Win Rebounding Battle
Wake Forest isn’t a good shooting team as they only make 42. 7 percent of their shots and 34.8 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.
They turn the ball over a ton at 14.5 turnovers per game, so defensively the Noles need to play their usual pressure defense that forces a lot of turnovers.
In regards to rebounding, FSU has been pretty bad on the boards the last few games. They got killed by Louisville and also lost the battle there against Clemson and Georgia Tech.
Since Wake Forest doesn’t shot it well, that will be a prime opportunity to rebound the ball and get out and run in transition to try to get some easy baskets.
Wake Forest isn’t very good defensively as they allow opposing offenses to average 72 ppg. This is a game the Noles should win as long as they come out strong early and don’t allow Wake Forest to hang around.
