Noles Should Have Won More Games

FSU football absolutely should have won more than six games in 2019. I suppose one could say there were a couple of games they deserved to lose as well.

Four games come to mind that should have had different results than the actual outcome for the Noles.

  • Boise State
  • Virginia
  • Wake Forest
  • Miami

FSU  jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and led 31-19 at halftime against a Boise State team playing on the road with a true freshman. They failed to score in the second half and the defense turned into swiss cheese while failing to recover a fumble that fell at the feet of the Noles.

FSU went on the road against Virginia and had a 24-17 lead with under 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. They also led 24-23 with six minutes left in the game and found a way to give the game away with the defense struggling to start Bryce Perkins short passing game and the offense being non-existent.

There’s absolutely no reason for the Noles to lose to Wake Forest, much less a Wake Forest team playing their backup quarterback. However, two costly turnovers was the difference in the game as the offense again struggled to capitalize in key situations.

The Miami game may have been the most unprepared I’ve ever seen FSU in a rivalry game. Willie Taggart and company had to know they were coaching for their jobs and they absolutely did not have that team ready to play a terrible Miami team that went on to lose to Duke, FIU and Louisiana Tech.

It’s not far-fetched to say the team we saw look so terrible at times could have really won eight or nine games in 2019.
