Honorable Mention

No. 5 Notre Dame at No. 2 FSU

This is a game that definitely could have been included in the top 10 greatest games of the decade. There were two top 5 teams with FSU coming into the game as -9.5 point betting favorites.

As with most games in the 2014 the Noles had to come from behind to win this one. The first quarter saw the two teams trade touchdowns and interceptions with Notre Dame being able to capitalize on the ‘Noles miscue to take a 14-7 lead. The two teams then traded field goals with Notre Dame taking a 17-10 lead into halftime.

FSU came out strong on their first possession of the second half with a nine play 70 yard touchdown drive that Notre Dame promptly answered.

The Noles answered with a touchdown on their ensuing drive to tie the game back at 24-24. After trading punts the Fighting Irish kicked a field goal to take a 27-24 lead with 11:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.

However, the Noles responded with a 10 play 75 yard touchdown drive to take the lead 31-27 with 7:39 remaining. This where it really gets interesting as Notre Dame received a punt with 2:48 remaining on FSU’s 49 yard line.

They proceeded to use 12 plays to go 31 yards including a ridiculous conversion on fourth and 18 to eventually score the go-ahead touchdown on fourth and two with :13 second remaining.

However, the call was negated due to an offensive passing interference call which was the right call!

Everett Golson’s pass was intercepted on the next play to seal the win for the Noles.
