FSU Football missing perfect opportunity with 2020 spring game date
By Jason Parker
FSU Football could have had a chance to get the perfect weekend going with a baseball game being the same day, but instead they are choosing a different day.
For a decent amount of the FSU football fan base, the attention has already been turned to the 2020 season and the start of the Mike Norvell era – never mind that the Seminoles actually have one game left this season in the Sun Bowl against Arizona State as the Noles hope to avoid back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since the 1970s.
Nope, for some it’s already on to next season and spring football – a time that will end with Norvell leading the Seminoles on to the field of Doak Campbell Stadium to end the fun with the annual Garnet and Gold spring game taking place sometime in the month of April.
Well, now we know when the FSU football team will be ending the spring practice schedule – and just like their social media account at times, they dropped the ball and missed a perfect opportunity to capitalize on the fact of Doak being right next to Dick Howser Stadium and the FSU baseball team.
Now, for those who don’t know what I am talking about I will explain: the baseball team for FSU will be on the road that weekend taking on Wake Forest…when just one weekend before, they will be hosting Notre Dame (led by former FSU baseball star Link Jarrett) with Saturday’s first pitch being at noon.
Okay – you can have a baseball game at noon, the football game at 5 pm and plenty of fun in the concert afterward depending on the musical choice (please be 2 Chainz). I already had my Sunpass charged up and ready to go!
But, that won’t be taking place and for the second straight season the FSU football team will be doing their thing on their own as the only show in town that weekend – missing a perfect chance to capitalize on the excitement that comes when there is more things to do in the spring.
Yes, I know that April 12th is Easter Sunday next season and that’s why the baseball team is off that day – but I personally don’t have a problem with spending the day driving back after a weekend of fun in Tallahassee. I also am not a Christian, so I may not fully understand the sanctity of the holiday like others and will default to them on this one.
So, for a second straight season, the FSU football spring game will be the fun part of the day – and at the moment, seemingly the only thing of the day.
